A CAUTIONARY NOTE

During my adventures in family history research, I have realized that, say, my great great grandparent or other ancestor is not only mine and the immediate family members and cousins of whom I am aware, but also of many people whom I will never meet. That being said, welcome.

If you choose to use information from the postings on this blog in your family tree research, please reference my blog. Also, I urge you to read the books I have mentioned in my different postings. You might find something else in the books that I overlooked or that is of specific interest to you.

Also, the following sites have been truly helpful in my research: www.Ancestry.com, www.findagrave.com, www.worldvitalrecords.com, and www.footnote.com. The newspaper articles mentioned in my blog postings are from www.genealogybank.com, www.newspaperarchive.com, www.worldvitalrecords.com, and www.ancestry.com. Also, if available, join the local genealogical societies in the counties and states from which your ancestors hailed. These societies have items which have not been posted on the Internet. Many states and counties have wonderful websites devoted to family history from those locations.

The true joy in researching family history is the thrill of the hunt.

Death certificate for Gertrude (Grietje) Korttje Rozendal

According to a copy of the death certificate issued by the State of Nebraska, Gertrude (Grietje) Korttje Rozendal, was born 20 Jan 1851, in Holland, more specifically St. Annaparochie, Het Bildt, the Netherlands. Her parents were Jetze Jochums Korttje (Americanized: James Korchie) and Jantje (Americanized: Jennie) Arjens Keizer, according to information found at a Friesland, Netherlands research site, Alle Friezen. She and her husband, Pieter (Americanized: Peter) Jarigs Rozendal, married 15 May 1873, Het Bildt, Friesland, the Netherlands came to the United States in 1880 with six children, one of whom was my great grandmother. Five more children would be born in the United States.

The 02 Jun 1880 US census finds Gertie and her husband Peter, along with their children, living in Leavenworth, KS. They also lived in Iowa for a time, before settling in Nebraska. According to Gertie’s death certificate, she died of “sporotrichosis” determined by laboratory tests. She was ill for 6 days, from 12 Jul to 22 Jul, 1928, before passing away on 22 Jul 1928 at 6:50 p.m. She was 77 years, 1 month and 2 days at the time of her death. Gertrude (Grietje) Korttje Rozendal was buried on 24 Jul 28 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska, under the direction of R. J. Smith, undertaker.

The informant for the personal information on the death certificate was Mike Rozendal of West Point, Nebraska.

This information has also be posted by me on Findagrave.com.

And just a note: I might have mentioned this in a previous post, but two wonderful websites to use when researching your Friesland ancestors are www.allefriezen.nl and www.tresoar.nl. Also www.genlias.nl is extremely useful when researching your ancestors from the Netherlands.
